- 1 lb ground breakfast sausage I get the "hot" version
- 1/3 cup all purpose flour
- 3 cups milk I recommend whole milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper more or less to taste
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- ¼ tsp crushed red pepper more or less to taste
Heat a large skillet over medium high heat, and brown the sausage while crumbling. When the sausage is fully cooked, add in the flour and cook while stirring to ensure that the sausage is fully coated.
Reduce the heat to medium low, and add in the milk and all of the seasonings. Stir frequently, and be sure to scrape the bottom of the skillet so that the milk does not burn. Cook for about 20 minutes (stirring frequently!!) or until the gravy is thickened. I recommend serving this over warm biscuits!
